The grinding mill was some miles away, behind the mountain. My mother would prepare for the trip quite well. She would first go into the granary, a thatched hut used for storing grain and take some maize using a battered and wasted 20 litre metal container. Winnowing would come next, where she would use a winnowing basket (rusero) in order to remove the chaff… After all was done, we would then carry the tied sacks of maize on our heads to the grinding mill..picture of man who works in the grinding mill
