Catching a grasshopper was rather, a cat and mouse game. One would often kneel down on two knees, in the grass and crawl stealthily towards the insect, with one hand cupped and stretched forward. At times, the grasshopper would sense our presence and immediately with a panicky flutter, take off and fly away. Or it would be too late. When the latter happened, we would immediately break off its hind legs, and with a victorious grin, throw it into used 2kg sugar container…
