On the way back, Tobias got pricked by a mupangara thorn. We then took some time seated by the side of the path, trying to unprick it. Tobias grimaced with untold pain and cried. When we managed to take it out, it was almost dark.
The walk back home was slow. Tobias hobbled on behind us and we would nudge him to catch up as it was getting dark. But he never seemed to mind.
Darkness caught up with us as we approached the big river, Makondwe. Suddenly I became very afraid. Stories of a water mermaid which resided in a pool nearby flooded me.
I then ran and caught up with my brother who trudged on ahead, along the narrow path…
